It has been one month now since I stopped working for others fulltime and decided to give the company I started five years ago the old college try. As one of my friends in Finland used to always say, 'aika lentaa' or 'time flies' as it certainly doesn't seem like it has been a month. Things haven't gone as quickly as I was hoping and, of course, adjustments to my plan have had to be made. I'm still very excited and happy about this decision to work for myself and I have made a conscious effort to get into a routine, which is why I'm blogging everyday. I'm also using Toodledo to keep myself on track even with household chores. I am confident that this will be an amazing experience and am looking forward to writing my One Year blog right after my birthday citing the highs and lows of this experience or college try.

Life is like...
I woke up this morning thinking about how life can be. One day we are all excited about an opportunity and the next day (or week) that same opportunity has reached a low and the excitement has been lifted. A popular movie by Tom Hanks Forrest Gump has a saying 'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get' which can be very true. We can plan ahead all we want, but if we aren't flexible, those plans will go awry and not turn like you planned--you thought you were going to get caramel in the middle, but instead it is cherry--both are good, just doesn't always meet your expectation. A roller coaster ride is the same--it has its ups and downs and if we are riding on a really good one, we have a huge range of emotions. Today, I woke up feeling disappointed because expectations in a certain area has not been met. What do I do, wallow in my sorrow and stay scared on the low point of this roller coaster ride or realize that there will be highs and to understand that cherry filling is just as good or better than caramel.

Websites
Yesterday, I spent a majority of the day revamping my business webiste and also started working on a website for the Greenleaf Historical Society. They asked me about four years ago to set it up for them and I have just never had the time to really devote to it until now. It dawned on me while I was working on both sites that I have put together a lot of different websites and am 100% self taught. Thank God for Google as I ask it all kinds of questions. Here are some of the sites that I have worked on:
Always Under Construction This was a personal website that seemed to be popular before weblogs started. I worked on this a lot my first in year in Finland. I learned a lot about the telecommunication industry that year as I only dial up with my ISP and did not know that in Finland they charge for local calls as I got a huge phone bill as a result of this website. I think I missed a trip to Russia because I couldn't afford the trip after paying the phone bill. Lesson learned and I got broadband as soon as I could.
CWCNow Thes was my first company and the company is now closed and the link is dead. I also learned about designing Moodles during this time period.
Virtual Teachers Agency LLC I have set this site up twice. The first time with a Joomla template and now with a Word Press. I'm toying with the idea of setting up a blog on this site, but am not sure as I have two blogs now and I rarely have had time to maintain both of them.
Tree Top Fun Run I set this site up for some friends who were organizing a local fun run for charity. The fun run lasted for two years and I haven't heard much about it since.
Greenleaf Friends Academy Last year, the local private school was looking for someone to design and maintain their website. They also changed the domain in the process. I did the design and my sister worked with the content and then last summer we passed the reigns to maintain the site to someone else.
I didn't realize until yesterday how much of a geek I am in this area. I just love learning and would love to get some training in this area.

Movie Highlight
Right now, I'm going through my movies and am systematically watching them. Last night, a movie I started watching always puts a lump in my throat and many times I actually just start bawling. For those of you who know me well, I rarely cry so for a movie to have that affect on me is quite rare. Anyway, this movie always has that affect on me. One of my favorite quotes in the movie is when Rudy is talking to the priest wondering why he hasn't been admitted into Notre Dame yet and the priest says: "Son, in 35 years of religious studies, I have come up with two hard facts--there is a God and I'm not Him!" As I watch this movie, I am overcome with how determined this man is to realize his dreams and I think about dreams I have had that have not yet been realized and think about the sacrifices I must make in order for these dreams to come into fruition. I'm the type of person who is normally able to accomplish my goals. Lately, though, I have run into obstacles that I didn't expect for some of my dreams and this movie always has the same effect on me--keep working, Holly, you will get what you want if you press on and do not quit. I think I watch this movie at least once a year as it really makes an impact. Anyway, for those of you who have not yet seen this movie, I would highly suggest it as it is motivational if nothing else.

Kindergarten lesson
This quote is commonly said around young children as they are learning to be gracious. I believe this is one saying that needs to be said to everyone all the time. It seems that so many people forget to be gracious and happy about what they do have as they are concentrating more on what they don't have. The drive and need to get more can be debilitating and we really need to sit back and think of the values we learned in kindergarten as to how important it is to remember that 'we get what we get and we shouldn't have a fit'.

Thoughts...
As I watch people in pain doing their best to cope and yet the only way they know to cope is to hurt someone else, I'm reminded that the more they are hurting, the more they go out and hurt others. I pray for bullies because they have so much hurt in their hearts...and the more they need God's love! just some rambling for today...
